Sarah Randle possesses one of the most powerful and
unique voices of any new British artist. A bold statement, perhaps,
but one only has to consider some of the legendary figures - Sir
Paul McCartney, Chris Rea, Joan Armatrading, as well as an inadvertent
helping hand from H.M. The Queen - who have become enchanted by
her pitch perfect vocal range and wonderfully animated personality,
to then reconsider the statement as being simply fair praise.
Although Sarah believed her life was to be dominated by her piano
skills, it was clear once she joined Liverpool Institute for the
Performing Arts (L.I.P.A.) that her voice was to be her main musical
tool.
There are not many who can say that their musical big break was
in part due to the Queen - it was Sarah’s performance at a
charity event at Buckingham Palace which brought her to the attention
of her first legendary fan, when Joan Armatrading asked her to participate
in a charity project which was to feature the likes of Mark Knopfler,
Tina Turner and Melissa Etheridge. Sarah then became part of a major
charity album and was thrown in at the deep end, coping with the
dazzling media spotlight admirably.
Sarah returned to L.I.P.A., to develop her vocal range and, in
order to make ends meet, created an array of extravagant sandwiches
and fruit cocktails at local snack bars. She could not have guessed
in her wildest dreams that the founder of L.I.P.A., Sir Paul McCartney,
would play a pivotal role in the next stage of her career. After
watching her sing, Sir Paul picked Sarah to perform at Linda McCartney’s
memorial service.
Although a hugely emotional moment at an event which may have caused
less confident performers to buckle, Sarah’s vocal performance
acted as the perfect back drop to the celebration of Linda McCartney’s
life and had all those present enchanted by her magical voice.
The latest stage in Sarah’s career came out of the blue,
when Chris Rea, who had just launched his own record label, Jazzee
Blue, heard her voice. Gus Dudgeon, the legendary music producer
had sent a note to Chris together with a demo track. Sarah’s
voice stood out from the many tapes Chris had been sent, and on
hearing her ability to sing such a wide range of music, Chris knew
that Sarah was the perfect new talent that Jazzee Blue had been
looking for.
Sarah has been working with Chris on a new album and single, which
is set for release in the autumn. Chris has written the majority
of the tracks, but it is expected that the debut single will be
a song called ‘The Sparrow’. Sarah first heard the song
being performed by Mahalia Jackson - the song stayed close to her
heart and was her first choice when it came to her single.
With musical influences ranging from Nina Simone to Ray Charles,
Sarah has chosen her role models carefully and, with the help of
those who have discovered and encouraged her talent, Sarah is determined
to achieve her dreams. |
