We were in a car, travelling from gig to gig. The
radio turned down to a background as we endlessly talk of our love
…. Music.
Suddenly the conversation stops, a strange silence, eyes flick to
oher eyes, a lot like a sudden close encounter sci-fi scene in a
movie.
The volume is slowly and deliberately turned up. The music that
had stopped us in our tracks of Jazz – Blue history, was of
the sound of many guitars (5 lead guitars!). They sounded so definitely
like Ellington or Basie – lots of guitars, but all playing
single notes only, making up gorgeous chords of a big band sound.
Completely unique.
These guys were from Paris – they gathered together, every
once in a while, from their own individual music careers to solemnly
conjure up some pieces of total original magic.
When listening to Guitars Unlimited, close your eyes and imagine
what you are hearing in front of you. This is how they work, in
a line, mostly first takes and NO OVERDUBS! To see them live takes
your breath away.
It is sad that so many years have passed and so few know of them.
But it is happy and gives us great joy as musicians, to have the
Jazzee Blue label finally bring them to the public.
Believe me, you thought that maybe you could play the guitar…
till you heard Guitars Unlimited. |
